NATIONAL SOCCER SCHOOL™ - HistoryThe National Soccer School™ began its journey 31 years ago (1980), offering young soccer players the opportunity to learn and play soccer in a planned, fun, safe and ethical environment. The founder, George Short, who was at the helm of the school for 24 years, succeeded in building a long-lasting quality brand. As a former Canadian athlete at the 1960 Summer Olympic Games, George approached the design and the administration of the National Soccer School™ with the same amount of dedication and determination that he needed to run the 100 meter sprint in Rome. With an impressive professional background, first as an Athletic Director at Sir George Williams, and then as the Director of the Sport Administration Program in the Exercise Science Department at Concordia University, George successfully catered to thousands of kids in a 24 year period. Since retiring from Concordia University in 2004, George has relocated to Vancouver where he continues operating summer sport schools (www.futurestarscamps.ca). Employing many university players as instructors, the National Soccer School™ has succeeded in offering kids the best technical advice. After some location changes, the National Soccer School™ today operates in Montréal and Westmount, as well as in Beaconsfield, where all locations offer boys and girls ages 5 to 14 the opportunity to develop the basic skills and techniques needed to play and enjoy the game of soccer. Since 1980, our programs have continuously evolved, where emphasis is today put on enhancing speed, co-ordination and agility, in addition to developing basic skills and techniques. Through conditioning, basic skills development, principles and systems of play, competitive game situations, the National Soccer School™ offers a fun and instructional environment. In keeping within its rich tradition, the National Soccer School™ is today entering its 31st year of operation. We, at the National Soccer School™, would hence like to thank every single one of you who has helped us transform this, originally small project, into a success story. It is because of you that we are here today! François Bastien |
